Work Experience

I have recently had a volunteering position at Beamish Musuem in the Costume department. Today I have been given a project to make a floral blouse, might take a picture when I have finished next weekend hopefully.

50's patchwork skirt

 

I have recently made a patchwork skirt for my mother with a lot of pleats on the hem and round the pocket. This was so she could wear it at work and see if I could get any commisions. I did have a problem with it because it was patterns including seams. i had forgotten till i had sewn them together and saw that it was bigger than expected . This made me fustrated however i was able to solve this problem in the end. I am now glad it was fixed and that it is complete.

Hacker and Dodge Costumes

 

 

We were given a worked related small project to create costumes for the CBBC puppets Hacker and Dodge. I chose to make pirate outfit because everyone likes them. Ureh? I had to make these simple design and easy to attach on for example using velcro. I researched many images of pirate costumes that would be easy to construct and appealing to the audience.

I designed to that Dodge (top right) should be the crew member. I used a distessing technique by dipping white cotton in to tea dye to make it look worn and added brown leather to the outfit.

This Captain costume was made for Hacker (top left). I tried to make this very like a pirates costume with frills in the front, big cuffs, pleats in the side seams, golden buttons and shoulder pads for a pirate to rest on.

I did find i difficult but I am proud with the end result.



Tinker Bell costume in 2nd Years exhibition.

 
In Second Year's Exhibition my Tinker Bell Costume was displayed next to the stairs alongside the Peter Pan characters Hook, Tiger Lili and of course Peter. I felt honoured.

Diamond Jubliee Festival

Had a full day of fun out in the cold at Hartlepool, Marine quay with my fellow class mates from uni at the Diamond Jubliee Festival dressed in costumes also being in character (some of the time anyway).

 





'Fashion from the Past'

Went to visit the Belsay Musuem and watched catwalk based on the tudor 'fashion from the past' costumes made by Julia Soares- McCormick. Check out her website- http://www.tudortalkandcatwalk.com/

Tinkerbell costume

This is my Tinkerbell Costume I have been creating. I just need the petticoat and of course the wings to construct. Will also be decorating them.
